Canon Environmental Grant Winners 2008
Sydney, 8 October 2008 - Canon Australia is pleased to announce the winners of the 2008 Canon Australia Environmental Grants.
In line with Canon's kyosei philosophy of "living and working together for the common good", the Canon Australia Environment Grants assist groups working on environmental projects anywhere in Australia. Five successful applicants are each awarded Canon products of their choice to the value of AU$5000 based on the environmental merits of their projects and the importance of digital imaging technology in achieving their objectives.
The 2008 Canon Australia Environmental Grant winners are:Northern Rivers Wildlife Carers (NSW)Wesley E-Recycling (NSW)Dolphin Research Institute (VIC)Goolwa to Wellington Local Action Planning Board (SA)Albany Senior High School (WA) The scope of the grant-winning projects vary, including: rescuing, recording and rehabilitating injured native wildlife; diverting e-waste from landfill while supporting people with disabilities; ensuring the wellbeing of dolphins and their marine habitat; monitoring wetlands, revegetating bushlands and conducting grazing trials; and monitoring and reporting on fish and shellfish populations.
"Each year we are impressed by the range and calibre of projects applying for a Canon Australia Environmental Grant", said Janet Leslie, Quality, Safety and Environment Manager, Canon Australia. "We're proud to be able to offer assistance to groups that are so actively committed to the environment and contribute to the quality and impact of their results."
A wide range of Canon equipment will be provided, from digital still cameras, digital SLR cameras and High Definition digital video cameras to interchangeable camera lenses and underwater housings.
"Canon takes a life cycle approach to the environment and the environmental impacts of our products are considered at all stages from design, production and distribution to usage and eventual resource recovery," said Kenji Kobayashi, Managing Director Canon Australia. "This means that our Canon Environment Grant winners can be confident that not only do they have the best digital imaging equipment to do the job, but they're also minimising their environmental impact in the process."
Since 1988, Canon's business approach has been guided worldwide by the kyosei philosophy of "living and working together for the common good". Information on Canon's local performance, challenges and opportunities in pursuing the kyosei philosophy is published in the independently verified Canon Oceania Sustainability Report 2008, covering the period 1 July 2007 to 31 June 2008.
About the Canon Environmental Grant
 In the spirit of our guiding philosophy of kyosei - living and working together for the common good - Canon Australia stresses environmental protection both in its daily operations and through support activities.
To celebrate World Environment Day on June 5 2008, Canon Australia will accept entries to the 2008 Canon Australia Environmental Grants. The Canon Australia Environmental Grants comprise five product endowments each valued at $5,000 to facilitate projects that will have a positive impact on Australia's natural environment.

Applications for the 2008 Canon Australia Environmental Grants have now closed.
Winners will be announced at the end of September.
Terms and Conditions
The grants shall be known as the Canon Australia Environmental Grants. A limit of one grant per successful applicant will apply. The grants will be administered through Canon Australia. Applications for the grants are open to Australian organisations only. Canon Employees and their immediate families, Canon resellers and distributors and their agencies are ineligible. The value of each grant will be $5,000 worth of product (Australia recommended retail value) from Canon's consumer products range (including digital still cameras and camcorders, inkjet and photo printers, binoculars, flatbed scanners, photographic lenses, small-office multifunctions). Business products (including data projectors, large format printers and business multifunctional digital devices) are not available. The total value of the products for each grant will be on or up to $5,000 (Australia recommended retail value). The grant is not transferable for cash and no change from $5,000 will be issued. The $5,000 grant may be put toward a larger purchase with Canon Australia. The difference will need to be paid to Canon in full prior to the allocation of product(s). The Canon product will be chosen in consultation with a Canon representative and will be subject to availability. The Canon Australia Environmental Grants equipment must be used for the purpose of aiding and documenting environmental research or projects that will impact beneficially on the Australian environment. The recipient must abide by the guidelines set out in the application form, including reporting of outcomes /objectives and updates to Canon throughout the duration of the project. The Environmental Grant of equipment is a gift, not a loan, and the equipment will not be required to be returned upon completion of the project, however regular updates and communication must occur between the project contact and Canon Australia and if the project or research (for which the Grant was awarded) ceases to exist with no measurable outcomes less than six months after the equipment is awarded, Canon Australia reserves the right to take back the equipment. Applications will only be accepted if received on or before 31 August 2008. To be valid, applications must be made on the official application form which can be filled out and submitted directly from this site. No consideration will be given to supporting material or additional pages. Application forms will not be returned. Canon Australia reserves the right to refuse any application. A judging panel consisting of Canon representatives will make the final decision and no correspondence will be entered into. It is a condition of application that the recipient must cooperate with the administrators and agents in the publicity and promotion of the Canon Australia Environmental Grants. The recipient must also allow Canon to use their name and details of the project in Canon marketing material. Entry to this competition constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions.
